The radio is powered by most satellites without customization, accepting unregulated power anywhere from 3.0-5.5V. Data input and output interactions can be set to any desired voltage between 1.8-5.5V. Cost effective Development Transceivers and Spaceflight-Certified Transceivers, ideal for commercial and academic environments.

Development Radio vs. Spaceflight-Certified Radio

We pay special attention to the spaceflight radios, individually testing them to ensure they are space-ready. We program each unit and perform a transmission checkout. All this is performed in a class 10k cleanroom to protect your transciever. The units are then sealed and labeled.

When you recieve a radio, use the development radios everyday. Learn and play with the units. Build a developemnt or prototype spacecraft with these radios inside. When it gets to final flight unit assembly, open the spaceflight-certified units and plug them in. Of course perform your last checkout with these units, but treat them as flight units.

Spaceflight-Certified Testing Procedure:

  • Performance Check, Transmission Check
  • XRay each radio board to ensure structural integrity and solder joint quality
  • Vibe-test each unit, as it will experience later in the spacecraft checkout process once it is integrated
  • Bake out each radio to clean off any remaining debris
  • Performance Check, Transmission Check

PocketQube Integration

The MiniSatCom radios are small enough to fit in a PocketQube, leaving plenty of room for your satellite systems and experiment. The profile dimensions are 30mm by 44mm, and a thickness of approximately 6mm. Final specifications depend on the module.

Manufacturing Information

The MiniSatCom transiever is built to J-STD-001ES. This is the highest soldering standard recognized by industry, specifically oriented for long-duration spacecraft. Click here for more information on J-STD-001ES.
